Résumé

Titre: Langage de la mort dans le processus de légitimation de l’Etat africain

Auteur (s) : Birama Diop

Abstract :

In traditional African society, the legitimacy of political power is closely linked to a certain psychological representation of death, which attests to a certain continuity or justification of political power. The corpse is no longer seen as a waste product to be disposed of as a matter of urgency; it influences political life and vali- dates the political status of the new power. The construction of legitimate power was thus seen as the necessary expression of the domestication of death, providing a certain justification for political power. Thus, in the African political context, the language of power links social life to time, by staging death to legitimise political organisation.
